| Star Wars Artists' Guild | A lot of galleries and a lot of categories. Art quality ranges the full gamut. |
| DungeonCrafter | A free downloadable program and accompanying custom tilesets, for building maps and building floorplans. While somewhat limited when it comes to working with sci-fi/modern layouts (although there are tiles for Star Wars fighters), it does come in handy when working on rough ideas. |
| U.S. Submarines | A Florida-based company that builds (you guessed it) luxury subs for personal use. Clicking on "Submarines" takes you to the product categories, with "Luxury Subs" containing deckplans for the 20m Nomad 1000 and a 3-D layout of the 65m Phoenix 1000. Clicking on "Habitats" takes you to a variety of conceptual projects the company is promoting -- including the world's first sea floor resort (which is actually under development at the time of this posting). |
| Jules' Undersea Lodge | Possibly the most unusual 'Bed & Breakfast' you'll ever come across. The lodge is a former underwater research lab that has been refurbished, reloacted to Key Largo in Florida, and is now open to the public as an underwater hotel (celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2006). A floorplan and various pictures are available. |
| NOAA's Aquarius | An underwater ocean laboratory located in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary -- 3-1/2 miles offshore and at a depth of 60 feet. Floorplans are available in the FAQ section under "What does Aquarius look like?" Missions are conducted on a regular basis, with photos and live webcams also featured elsewhere on the website. |
| The Multipurpose Troop Transport Carrier System | A modular design bunker system undergoing testing and evaluation by the U.S. Military. It can be configured to serve as a troop transport module on board a flatbed truck or as a stand-alone building. Specs and photos are available in the downloadable brochure. |
| Apollo Duck | A boat/ship sales website. Lots of boats/ships, lots of pictures, and some even have deckplans. Clicking on the link takes you to their 'commercial boats' section, but they also have sections devoted to barges and yachts. Since this is a sales site, if you find something you like you better download photos/deckplans immediately -- there's no guarantee you'll see them again next time. |
| Fleetwood | A manufacturer of RVs ranging from luxury coaches to pop-up campers. RVs may not be the first thing to come to mind when looking for deckplan inspiration, as subs and/or ships might, but they're excellent at making use of limited space and are a good resource. Each model has both interior photographs and floorplans; of particular interest are the 'toy haulers' as their decor style is not too far removed from what you might see in Star Wars. |
| Marathon Coach | Another RV manufacturer, but builds luxury coaches exclusively (the ones that easily sell for over $1.5 million each). This particular manufacturer is listed because of the considerable amount of technology that goes into each model. Both interior photographs and floorplans of each model are available. |
| Great West Vans | Yet another RV manufacturer, but is listed because of the fact that they deal with Class "B" motorhomes -- essentially modified van frames -- and therefore have to work with even less space than the other companies. Good reference when developing really small ships such as the Moldy Crow and A-24 Sleuth. Both interior photographs and floorplans of each model are available. |
| American Ingenuity Dome Homes | A company that builds/sells geodesic dome houses. Not exactly 100% relevant, but the domes look appropriate for a sci-fi setting and the floorplans deal with non-conventional room shapes. This website also features links to other dome construction companies. |
| Railroad Car Floorplans | Includes baggage, sleeper, diner, and dome cars. This site is dedicated to an old rail line called "The California Zephyr," and by clicking on the "continue the tour" link at the bottom of the page you can also get interior photos. Going on to the "Ghosts" section will also allow you to find some pictures of those cars still in service today. |
| The Dover Harbor | A fully restored 1923 Pullman sleeper-lounge-buffet railroad car. Photos can also be found on this site. |
